It's Time for Change.

It's difficult not to make comparisons between the current situation with the beauty/cosmetics (our) industry and the tobacco industry of the 1960s. Interestingly, the first studies involving tobacco health risks began in the 1920s. Over 40 years and 7000 studies later, the first Federal actions were finally taken (the Federal Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act). In 1965 the game turned ugly for the tobacco industry. The truth hurt.

Today, we have knowledge that allows us to make informed decisions regarding whether we smoke or not. The truth is told on every cigarette package. Amazingly, the most recent warning label has been minimized to only stating that cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide. Regardless, there are no ifs, ands, or buts (pun intended). The truth is known. Smoking is hazardous to our health. It is now our informed choice to make.

At NaturOli, part of our mission is to enable consumers to be able to make such clear, informed decisions regarding their skin care and beauty product choices.

At this juncture, skilled industry marketing teams are calling the shots and telling the stories. The methods they employ to legally tell us exactly what we want to hear (true or not) in order to sell their products are limited only by their own creativity. The real truths are light-years from being fully disclosed. Laws are in effect that tie the FDA's hands and benefit the beauty industry. Efforts to reverse such laws have been defeated due to the enormous power of the industry. Consumers are left in the dark not knowing what to believe. These are precisely the early stages of the same game and battle that has lasted for decades (and still continues today) between the tobacco industry, government and, yes, us - the consumer. Only the players have changed.

We have no false hopes that the beauty industry will make the selfless effort to reveal the truths at the expense of their own profits. We wish it would not take government intervention to bring the truths to light. So, what options do we have? At this time there are only two: education and choice. And the more we learn, the better choices we will make.

In our age of enhanced media and lightening-fast information, consumers are smarter and more in-tune today than at any other time in history. We have seen how big dollars can influence us. We have learned to become more skeptical. Many people have not yet taken that HARD look at the beauty/cosmetics industry. But every day, more and more are looking closer and closer. What previously had taken years can now happen virtually overnight. For the beauty/cosmetic industry, what would be a selfless act today will become their survival strategy tomorrow. Our choice (demand) is far more powerful than even the deepest of pockets. The tobacco industry learned this lesson the hard way.

Change is difficult. In the short-term change is costly. Neither of which is welcomed by big business in any industry. Surely, we will see some kicking and screaming on the path towards change in our industry, too.

In no uncertain terms, we are departing from our industry's typical practices and establishing NEW and HIGHER standards. NaturOli's standards are based in these things: ethics, honesty, integrity, quality, long-term effectiveness, good health and most importantly - the TRUTH. We hope that you will support our effort for the benefit of our children, our children's children, and ourselves. These new standards will ultimately prevail. In time, the truth always does.
