The Cosmetic Industry's Latest Dirty Little Secret Revealed!

October12th, 2007 - The cost of lipstick just went up dramatically. Millions of women the world over are about to pay a hefty price on some of their favorite Lipsticks. A little known truth concerning some of the industry's most popular lipstick brands has been brought to bare; the lead content in scores of popular, name brand lipsticks is significantly higher than government tested and regulated standards say are safe (view article).

NaturOli Newswire has learned of an independent study conducted in five major U.S. cities*(as of June 2007), where it discovered that half of the 33 brand-name lipsticks tested (61 percent) contained detectable levels of lead. While results varied, ranging from 0.03 - 0.65 parts per million (ppm) one thing is certain, 1/3 of all major cosmetic brand lipsticks exceed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's limit of 0.1 ppm initially standardized for candy, mandated as a safeguard to protect children.

Lead is highly toxic and is a proven neurotoxin that known cause learning, language and behavioral problems such as lowered IQ, reduced school performance and increased aggression. Lead poisoning also propagates renal disease, cardiovascular disorder and reproductive toxicity.

Pregnant women and young children are particularly vulnerable to lead exposure. Lead easily crosses the placenta and enters the fetal brain where it can interfere with normal development. Lead has also been linked to infertility and miscarriage.

NaturOli Newswire also discovered that this rather revealing study also uncovered that it is entirely possible to make lipstick without lead: 39 percent of lipsticks tested had no detectable levels of lead.
